ABOUT

LeeAnn Perry (she/they) is a scientist, musician, and writer living in San Francisco.

She received her BA in molecular biology from Washington University in St. Louis, and her MSc in neuroscience from Stanford University, where her research used machine learning to identify risk factors for adolescent-onset depression in high-risk teens. Currently, she is working at the intersection of microbiomics and precision health. LeeAnn brings this analytical lens to her artistic process, combining empirical and investigative methods with aesthetic acumen and empathic intent to reflect and re-present lived reality in her work.

LeeAnn is a classically-trained pianist, who has been producing experimental ambient and dark left-field dance music since 2016. As Verdun 1916, as XXU, and part of the duo XXU & UXX, she has performed at festivals, galleries, campouts, warehouses, bars, coffee shops, and rituals in the Bay Area and beyond. As a curator and promoter, she crafts events and experiences to stimulate creativity, community, and connection.

Her writing practice uses speculative fiction and unconventional narrative modes to imagine alternative futures, elicit raw emotion, and explore the intersection of technology and humanity. Her influences and interests include identity, gender and sexuality, cyberpunk, machine learning, neuroscience, spirituality, psychedelics, witchcraft, subculture, music, and atypical modalities of sensing, feeling, and being.
